Petition for Consideration at 12 July 2022 Health & Wellbeing Board

Title: Baby Box

Statement:

We the undersigned petition Brighton & Hove Council to implement the NHS branded Baby Box project pilot informed by the Finnish model which contains towels, diapers, bodysuits, a sleeping bag, outdoor gear, bathing products for the baby, as well as nappies, bedding and a small mattress, and other personal care products.

Justification:

Mortality rates are split across socioeconomic lines, with the lowest mortality in the least deprived areas and among parents in professional or managerial roles. The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) called the rise “extremely concerning”. Infants are more than twice as likely to die in England and Wales if they are born into a poor family rather than a wealthy one, and the gap is widening”.
